Overview
Southeastern Arizona's sky island mountain ranges create pockets of Mexican biodiversity within easy reach of the United States. Male calling from a sycamore snag at the upper picnic area. Coppery tail, green back, red belly. The bird that brings everyone to SE Arizona.
Male at the feeders with that gorgeous curved bill and magenta gorget flaring in the sun. Sat in a camp chair for two hours waiting and it was worth every minute.
Popped out of a woodpecker hole in a saguaro right at dusk. Smallest owl in the world and it was staring right at us with those yellow eyes.
